We had a fun night strutting down the runway, rocking denim clothing, supporting the end of sexual violence and assault. RUPA, Rutgers No More, and VPVA came together to create the first ever Denim Day fashion show to coincide with the Denim Day Campaign. Denim Day is a sexual violence prevention and education campaign. The campaign originated in Italy when women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim whose rape case was overturned by the Italian Supreme court. They argued “because the victim wore very, very tight jeans, she had to help him remove them, and by removing the jeans it was no longer rape but consensual sex.” In addition to the fashion show, there were performances by Verbal Mayhem and Shockwave. The campaign does not stop here! Support Denim Day this year on April 26, 2017!
