Rutgers University invited volunteers to serve their community while getting their groove on a day filled with food, music, games, and dancing! They dressed up, learned how to salsa, made some crafts, and created memories with some local senior citizens!
Senior prom is one of the most heart-warming events we have throughout the semester. We started thinking about the prom’s theme a little over a month in advance, and decided that black-and-white would not only look classy, but also make sure that no one had trouble dressing for the occasion. The next step was to look for decorations and reach out to other organizations that might want to perform or entertain the seniors. The most stressful part of the experience was on the day of prom when we finally got to watch all our planning unfold. With only a few hours left before everyone arrived, we arranged the venue by putting up all the decorations, food tables, photo booths, and speakers. It was so rewarding watching the students excitedly line up by the buses, waiting to meet the seniors they would be matched up with. Having people who usually would not have the chance to connect dancing and getting to know each other made the entire process more than worth it. And we did not expect to watch a senior break dance and teach everyone his moves!
